The words we choose to use when discussing matters of aging and our elders can have an impact on how society perceives and understands aging?

The Reframing Aging Initiative (RAI) has released a series of videos to explain this concept and raise awareness.

The Gerontological Society of America recently issued a press release to share this news, which reads in part:

There is another development regarding the investigation into the operations of some Kentucky nursing home facilities. WHAS investigative reporter John Charlton in Louisville, Kentucky is raising awareness in a big way!

Keeping it REAL Caregiving has been tracking his work, which has state lawmakers taking notice. This is why it is important we all share our stories!

In Memphis, Tennessee, Fox 13 reporter Dominique Dillon recently put the spotlight on an elder who desperately needed help after a winter storm knocked out her power.

The work of this journalist inspired community members to step up and dive in. After this report aired, numerous individuals came forward offering to make the necessary repairs - bravo!

SAVE THE DATE for the next Keeping it REAL Caregiving Sunday Coffee Chat & Support Hour!

I’m super excited about this one and I think you will be too! Join KIRC as we welcome our very special guest, Dr. Toni Miles, MD, PhD, FGSA, Epidemiologist.

Dr. Toni Miles/MD, PhD, FGSA, Epidemiologist

Sadly as we know, caregiving often means saying goodbye to our loved ones. We're going to dive deep into...

  • How do we cope with and move through grief?

  • And what about those who work in the caregiving field who see death far too often?

Dr. Miles is an advisor to elder care initiatives including the CDC Healthy Brain, Georgia’s Alzheimer’s Task Force, and the John A. Hartford Foundation.

Currently she works with organizations to identify Best Practices in Bereavement Care and refine a new Tool Kit. These organizations include the John A. Hartford Foundation, the SCAN Foundation, the Rosalynn Carter Institute, and the Athens Area Grief Coalition.

We're honored to have Dr. Miles join us! Grab your favorite cup of java - come ready to ask questions and learn!
