Celebrating our biggest fans: Where would we be without our Mothers?

Wishing all of you a heartfelt and warm Mother’s Day 2022!

Many of you will be spending the day with your mothers, or other matriarch friends in celebration of this holiday.

Some of you who have recently lost your mothers will be in mourning, and there are many of us who are still emotionally settling into the reality that our mothers are gone.

I have to be honest, I was not fully prepared for how much I miss my mom and the oddball moments that trigger feelings of loss and emptiness.

Earlier this week, I asked KIRC family members to share some of the ways they planned to celebrate and honor their mothers.

It seems FLOWERS are a common theme in how many of us choose to recognize our mothers. Here is what some of the KIRC family shared:

For others, the day will include visits to grave sites and reconnecting with those who were closest to our mothers.

Sometimes, we discover this day triggers a host of emotions ranging from sadness to determination to gratitude and all sorts of feelings in between.

KIRC would also like to say THANK YOU to all the women who have ever taken on the role of caregiver.

I think about the women who helped me care for my mother over the years and there is a special place in my heart for all of you - Sandra, Maria, Sandy, Cindy, Shari and Cathy: I am forever in your debt!

Finally this Mother’s Day - KIRC would like to leave you with this: a meme cartoon shared by a KIRC member. The image says it all.

Please do not let THIS depict how you and your family treat your mother.

May is in full swing but that doesn’t mean some of the information attached to other ‘national months’ should be forgotten.

April marked Parkinson’s Awareness Month but as we all know, medical conditions are not limited to just 30 days a year.

The learning curve for those facing Parkinson’s changes as the disease progresses. That's why it is important to educate yourself as much as possible. My mother suffered from Parkinson’s and with each health decline came a new set of care challenges.

This is a good article to help you navigate:
