Choosing the Medicare Option That’s Right For You When You Are Living With Paralysis

Hosted by: Center for Medicare Advocacy for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation

Event description: The program will explore the pros and cons of getting Medicare through the traditional public program or a private managed-care Medicare Advantage program, whether you’re:

  • New to Medicare

  • Seeking to change your Medicare option during the annual election period

  • Wondering if your changing life circumstances might present other opportunities for choosing how you get Medicare

The presentation will also examine:

  • Resources to optimize the decision on how you get Medicare

  • Strategies to avoid late enrollment penalties

  • Coordinating insurance when you have other types of health coverage, in addition to Medicare

  • Programs that may assist in paying for the costs of Medicare

From Loneliness to Resilience: Annual Elder Abuse Awareness Event

Hosted by: The California Department of Social Services

Event description: This year’s theme is From Loneliness to Resilience. Special guests Stu Maddox and Joseph Applebaum, creators of the film “Gen Silent,” will share an exclusive clip from their latest film, “All the Lonely People,” which places a human face on the hidden epidemic of chronic loneliness and social isolation. Plus, panelists from several agencies that serve the elder and dependent adult community will discuss the strategies their organizations developed to combat loneliness and social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This event will bring together stakeholders, policy makers, service providers, and the community at-large to draw attention to the devastating impact of abuse on vulnerable elder and dependent adults and their families.

Justice in Aging - Position available

Justice in Aging is expanding! We are hiring for a Health Team Program Associate to join our team in #California. You can be fully remote. Interested? Apply now! Preference will be given to applications sent before June 6th, 2022.

Keeping It REAL Caregiving has joined dozens of other agencies and individuals, signing on to a letter to US Senators, calling for support of funding for in-home care.

This is one way we can all do ‘something’ to address the growing needs and demands of family caregivers.
